Server backups
A backup is an archive of the server's data directory along with dumps of its databases. Backups are kept in S3-compatible storage: the data goes straight between the node and the bucket, not through the panel.
These are backups of individual game servers. Backing up the panel itself is covered in Backups.
What you need first
S3 storage: Modules → Backups and S3 storages. New backups go to the default storage. A location can have its own storage, shown under Related settings on the location's page. Existing backups stay where they were written. More in S3 storages.
Create a backup
Backups tab → Create a backup. A running server can be backed up. If the game is busy writing files at that moment, stop the server for full consistency, or use the Backup with stop schedule template (see Schedules).
Each backup in the list shows its date, size and status. The databases included in it are listed as separate rows, and their dumps can be downloaded (.sql.gz).
Restore
Click Restore on the backup you need. A running server has to be stopped: Stop and restore does that and starts restoring as soon as the server stops. Then pick what to restore:
- Server files — the data directory is replaced with the archive's contents;
- Databases — the tables are replaced with the dump from the backup. For each database you can load into the same database, recreate it, or skip it;
- Save the current database contents first — a database safety copy is taken before loading, and you can Roll back from it. The last 3 safety copies are kept. Without this box the current contents of the selected databases are lost for good.
To bring back one database without touching the files, click Restore database in that database's row.
Start the server yourself once the restore is done.
Download and delete
Download — the archive to your computer. A deleted backup is erased from storage and can't be recovered.
Limits
The server's plan can disallow backups and limit their number and total size per server, see Plans. When the limit is reached, no new backup is made — delete an old one. Failed backups don't count. Existing backups can be downloaded, restored and deleted even when the plan disallows backups.
When a server is deleted, its backups in storage stay.
Automatic backups
Regular backups are set up with a schedule: the Daily backup template backs up every night and keeps the last 7. See Schedules.
