Locations

A location is a data center or region: "Germany, Frankfurt", "Moscow". When creating a server, a customer picks a location rather than a specific machine, and the scheduler places the server on the freest suitable node in it.

Locations are optional. With a single site you can do without them.

Create a location

Locations → New location:

  • Name — seen by admins and staff.
  • Name for customers — what customers see. Empty — the same as Name.
  • Code — short and unique, e.g. fra1. The API and integrations, including WHMCS, refer to the location by it.
  • Country — a two-letter ISO code (DE, US) that sets the flag.
  • Note — provider, rack and so on. Not shown to customers.
  • Accepts new servers — see "Close a location" below.
  • Order — the lower the number, the higher the location in lists.
  • Ping host — an IP or domain the customer can measure latency to.

Attach nodes

A node belongs to one location at most. Attach it either way:

  • on the location's page: + Add node… and pick a node from the list (one from another location moves over);
  • on the node's page: the Location field.

A node's running servers aren't touched when its location changes.

A node without a location doesn't get servers created with a location choice. A server can be placed on it only by naming the node explicitly.

The location page

  • Properties — the fields from the form above.
  • Capacity — totals over the location's nodes: CPU and RAM reserved by container limits, and used disk. Free capacity counts only nodes that accept new servers.
  • The location's Nodes and Game servers.
  • Related settings — what other sections set for the location: port range (Game server ports), storage for new backups, database host rules and games installed on the location's nodes.

When a new server can't go into the location right now, the page warns about it: there are no nodes in the location, or all of them are offline or in maintenance.

Close a location

Close to new servers — no new servers go into the location, neither via the scheduler nor by picking a node by hand. Running servers keep running. Handy when the site is full or being wound down. Open to new servers undoes it.

To close a single node rather than the whole location, put it into maintenance — see Managing nodes.

Delete a location

More → Delete location… Move the nodes to another location first: the link from nodes to a deleted location isn't cleared, and the node list marks it as "deleted" until you pick a new one for the node.
